One of the most difficult challenges organizations face is to ensure that people and groups are dedicated to putting forth the effort and achieving the results that leaders expect of them. One of the best known motivational theories is Douglas McGregor´s X and Y theories. The transition from X to Y holds greater potential for taking advantage of organizational resources, as well as strategically utilizing human resources. This research is qualitative in nature, using an open-ended questionnaire that was applied to 26 students in Human Resource Classes at IFSUL – The Federal Institute of Rio Grande do Sul (Brazil). The results show that rudeness, a lack of humility, rigidity, making someone uncomfortable, and authoritarianism are some elements that denigrate a leadership figure and end up harming the process.Downloads
