Abstract

The importance of the tourism and its industry in the national economy leads us to put in perspective the present reform of the higher education system as decisive for the restructuring of the courses that can directly influence the national, regional and local development.

As a consequence, the articulation between go-vernment, educational institutions and the touristic industry is essential to reduce to a minimum the potential phase displacement between training offer of the educational institutions and the needs of the enterprises. So, the decision about the competencies to be supplied is determinant.

As far as the hotel industry and the hospitality management courses are concerned, this article aims at arising a set of questions and at the limiting the competencies that the manager of this type of enterprises should acquire at the present time so that they may be included in the curricular plans of the above mentioned courses. Accordingly, this article presents a set of perspectives proposed by different authors, intended to propitiate the debate.
